Key Worker

Learning Journals

Happy Feet Childminding staff make regular observations on the children’s learning and development, allowing us to ensure that all children’s needs are met to the best of our ability.

These observations are stored in individual learning journeys for each child and are available for you to view at any time.

Please add your own comments including things that your child has become interested in, any new skills that they have learnt and/or any significant experiences that your child may have had. This allows us to continually evaluate our resources and start topics and discussions that are relevant to your child. Parents and carers have a hugely important role to play in their child’s education.

“When parents and practitioners work together in Early Years settings, the results have a positive impact on the children’s development and learning” - EYFS - 2007

Key Worker:

In our setting a key person is a named member of staff with responsibilities for a small group of children who helps those children in the group feel safe and cared for. It involves the key person in responding sensitively to children’s feelings and behaviours and meeting emotional needs by giving reassurance, such as when they are new to a setting, and supporting the child’s well-being.

The key person supports physical needs too, helping with issues like nappy changing, toileting and dressing. That person is a familiar figure who is accessible and available as a point of contact for parents and one who builds relationships with the child and parents or carers. Children feel settled and happy and are more confident to explore and as a result become more capable learners.

Two year old Progress Check

During the age of 2 your child will have a progress check which is a requirement of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) 2012. Every child we look after must have one during their time at nursery. Your child’s key worker will be completing the check and will complete this when they best know your child.

The Early years foundation stage (EYFS) is a framework that we follow to support your child between birth and the age 5.

We ensure that we keep your child safe and promote their welfare. We use the 7 areas of development in our planning and ensure we are meeting the children’s needs so that they can play and learn happily in ways which will help them develop skills and knowledge across the Prime and Specific areas of learning in the EYFS.
